It’s hard to keep up with all the new drugstore makeup releases lately. It seems every time I visit my local Shopper’s Drug Mart or Walmart, I see more and more new displays. Spotting the Insta collection by Rimmel was a pleasant surprise.
On a recent trip to Walmart in search of an eyeshadow palette, I was immediately distracted by a new Rimmel display. They have recently released a ton of new products but their #Insta line is taking over at the drugstore. I wanted to pick up one of everything but kept somewhat calm and limited myself to 3 products: primer, pressed powder and setting spray.
For the sake of this review, I am only focusing on the primer and powder as I have had several days to put them to the test. I recently filmed a first impressions of the setting spray so definitely check it out. I also use the other Rimmel products reviewed here in the video as well.
Now onto the review!
WHAT ARE THEY?
Rimmel’s new #Insta collection caters to our deepest, darkest secret: selfie addiction. This collection is all about achieving that perfect selfie look at affordable pricing. The entire collection is quite vast: skin tint, powder, primer, setting spray, cream contours/concealers/highlighters and even a corrector trio.
Packaging is simple: plastic containers, no mirrors, and direct views of the shades without having to open the package.
I put both the Insta Flawless Primer and the Insta Fix & Matte Translucent Powder to the test.
The 1 fl oz squeeze tube packaging is ideal for sanitary reasons but beware, one small squeeze and you can end up with far too much product.
The scent-free cream is oil-free, contains silicone but feels like a moisturizer, blends in easily and leaves a radiant hue to the skin. It didn’t break me out and does extend the wear of my makeup. My foundation also applied more smoothly over the primer.
- This ultra-lightweight formula leaves skin hydrated for up to 24hrs whilst helping to perfect & brighten skin tone.
- Can be worn alone for a radiant glow or under makeup to extend the wear.
DIG IT OR DUMP IT?
DIG IT! I was looking for a radiant primer for the summer but most radiant primers are too oily for my skin type and I end up up looking like a greasy mess by midday. Rimmel’s Insta Flawless Primer one adds a glow without the grease.
This powder is sheer, extremely lightweight, finely milled, and doesn’t leave a white cast to the skin. It is buildable and can be re-applied throughout the day without fear of cake-face. Scent free and delicately soft to the touch. This is a talc based powder so if that is a concern to you, then pass.
- Imperfections are softened while the appearance of pores are minimized.
- The product offers you a selfie-ready blurred and matte finish that stays all day.
DIG IT OR DUMP IT?
DIG IT! This powder is a repurchase for me! I am always on the hunt for a super affordable, lightweight, translucent and mattifying powder. It definitely has a blurring effect, but did it keep me matte? YES, especially in the dreaded t-zone area. I love Wet ‘n Wild’s pressed powders and was interested to see how Rimmel’s Insta Fix & Matte compared. It excelled. It beat Wet ‘n Wild to the finish line.
