I don’t think I know one teen who doesn’t know about social media. We use it as our online gathering place where we can post stories, images, memes, opinions and more. We can keep up with our celebrity crushes or secretly stalk our school ones. If you are a YouTuber or Blogger you will use your social media platforms for more than just a friendly catchup with pals. Your social media apps become tools for digital marketing, online promotion and more.
But what about editing photos to post on your social media platforms? What if your interest in music and you want access to the latest tunes or newest artists? Or what if you need help actually getting to that meeting place to connect with your friends in person? There is an app for you!
Here at Teen Mashup we want to ensure you are using the hottest apps available, or at least have a solid list of the fundamentals !
Social Media Apps:

So in other words, it’s an app where you upload pics, like and comment on other people’s posts and share / create memories online. With the new addition of stories, you can engage in live chats with followers or post a series of stories (image or video) that will automatically be deleted within a 24 hour time period. The most used app on the market, Instagram is place to connect with others on a personal and business level and its an incredible creative platform!

Twitter is a place to express many thoughts and opinions but also read what other people’s thoughts and opinions are on specific topics. Connect with like-minded individuals, engage in Twitter parties, learn the art of the retweet, retweet and quote and more. You can even tweet polls to enhance engagement. A personal favorite for many, YouTube is a place to upload your own personal videos online and share it with the world; for free! It’s also a place to watch and enjoy your favourite YouTubers. The topics are endless. Subscribe to your fave YouTubers so you don’t miss a new video. Engage with other viewers by commenting and sharing videos. Many friendships have been made in the comments section!

Snapchat is where you can add specific people to your friends list and send pics and vids back and forth to each other. It is more known for “Snapchat Stories” where basically you upload vids and pictures that everyone can see for 24-hours. Then, they mysteriously disappear. You can also send private snaps to friends as well.

A place to upload and record your own songs, but also listen to unique and funky tunes. Sometimes, you can even get a preview of a hit song. An app for those who tend to travel a lot and need to know where to go. Walking? Driving? Taking a bus? Find directions and estimated trip duration. Even find nearby restaurants, cinemas and landmarks. A life saver and so simple to use.
Uber (Download in the App Store):
“Uber Technologies Inc. is a transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California, operating in 528 cities worldwide. It develops, markets and operates the Uber car transportation and food delivery mobile apps.” – Wikipedia.
If you live within the Uber service area, this ride sharing service app can save you big $ versus going by taxi. Schedule and pay online.
Any Bus Service App in your Location /City:
“OC Transpo is the urban transit service of the City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The system carries approximately 97.1 million annual riders.” – Wikipedia.
For example, those who live in Ottawa, Ontario, OC Transpo is the app to download to know everything there is to know about bus routes, fares and schedules. Trip planning services makes travelling to places unknown as easy as pie !
Wallet (Already on your iPhone):
USE THE WALLET APP! Teen Mashup’s biggest piece of advice is for you to start really using the virtual “Wallet” App to organize points cards, credit / visa cards, gifts cards etc. No need to dig around in your wallet or messy backpack looking for you American Eagle points card or Sephora Rewards card every again. Simply scan in your existing card and then provide your virtual card within Wallet at purchase time. If you want to save money on clothing, makeup, skincare and more, say “yes” to the cashier if they ask you to sign up for a free points card. The amount of money you can save over a period of time is amazing!
