I have enough bb creams and foundations to choke a horse. Why? Because I buy and try A LOT. Sad thing is that my skin is super sensitive and I can break out just looking at nasty ingredients. I will purchase a product, use it a few days and then boom – hello redness, texture or worse, the dreaded acne !
I have come to learn that lots of makeup products on the market, from drugstore to luxury brands, have a lot of pore clogging additives that no one needs, especially me AND especially YOU! You have enough to deal with in your teen years coping with regular acne (thank you hormones). Why add to the mix by using products that are simply bad for your skin?
I have also learned a valuable lesson too – invest in your skincare, makeup comes second. Take care of your skin and you will thank yourself; trust me. But that’s a different post altogether.
Now onto this review. Did I dig it or have I already dumped it? Read on to find out.
WHAT IS IT?
Daily 8-in-1 BB skin perfector brightens, smoothes, hydrates, and protects. Gives skin a dewy finish. Comes in a squeeze tube. 1 fluid ounce (standard for a foundation or bb) and is $10.99 CAD so not too harsh a hit to the teen budget.
WHAT’S IN IT?
The ingredients are listed under the back label but I couldn’t peel it off no matter how hard I tried. So here is the list as per the Maybelline site:
TITANIUM DIOXIDE, WATER, ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE, GLYCERIN, OCTYLDODECANOL, SILICA, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, OCTYLDODECYL XYLOSIDE, PHENOXYETHANOL, SODIUM ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, HYDROGENATED LECITHIN, ISOHEXADECANE, HYDROXYETHYL ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, PEG-30 DIPOLYHYDROXYSTEARATE, SODIUM DEHYDROACETATE, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRA-DI-T-BUTYL HYDROXYHYDROCINNAMATE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, DISODIUM EDTA, CITRIC ACID, POLYSORBATE 80, POTASSIUM SORBATE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, CHAMOMILLA RECUTITA (MATRICARIA) FLOWER EXTRACT, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF EXTRACT; MAY CONTAIN: IRON OXIDES, TITANIUM DIOXIDE
WHAT IT CLAIMS TO DO?
This BB skin perfector adjusts to skin tone, blurs imperfections, and protects. This replenishing water-gel formula leaves skin feeling fresh. Blurs imperfections Enhances Brightens Complements skintone Smoothes Hydrates Freshens Without oils and other heavy ingredients.
WHAT DO I REALLY THINK OF THIS PRODUCT?
Honestly , not much. The lightest shade 100 is orange as you can see from the photos. The older version, if memory serves, used to be pink toned and I preferred that over this..not a fan of looking like I work at Charlie’s Chocolate Factory.
Aside from shade problems, it doesn’t do much to balance skin tone. Like where did it go? Minimal coverage at best.
Is there SPF? Supposedly it has SPF 30 but Canadian regulations are at play here and I assume Maybelline doesn’t have the go ahead to list the SPF coverage for some reason.
But my biggest beef is the ingredient list – primarily the third ingredient: ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE
My go-to site for ingredient ratings is CosDNA and I highly recommend you review your products here too. It tells you everything you need to know about the irritability rating or acne causing rating of ingredients and ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE rates 4. You don’t want a 4 rating in your products. Hello pore clogging mess ! You want to stick with 0-2 (max).
VERDICT: DUMP IT !
